Ahoy!
Welcome to our blog. A little introduction I belive is right. My name is Kassie, the love of my life and kite string handler is Derek. We have a handsome, hilarious and fearless 2 year old son named Odie.
I wanted my first blog entry to be a back story of how this all came to be. If you enjoy quick how I met your mother lines then enjoy...
I was born and raised in Charleston South Carolina. At 20 I decided that it was time for this baby bird to leave the nest and spread my wings. My friend Tommy was moving down to the Florida Keys, to a quaint little fishing town called Islamorada. I got a job at a Bar/Marina called Smugglers Cove. My days consisted of fishing, going diving with friends, taking trips down to Key West when ever I felt the need and becoming quite found dead of rum. It was a pretty kosher life for a 20 year old.

While I was serving snow birds frozen drinks with little umbrellas. Derek was just finishing up his trip through South America. Which included hiking to the great Machu Pichu, great surf, bus rides and hostels. He also found his new found passion of sailing. With his pockets empty but his heart determined he headed back to his home town of New Symerna, Florida were he purchased a 24ft O'Day named Betty Jane.

Six months later he set out on his first solo trip, self taught, from New Symerna to the Florida Keys. Where he sailed right into Islamorada to Smugglers Cove where I was working. I saw a tan, scruffy guy rowing in on his Dinghy. I took one look at him walking up that dock and turned to my friend Kitty and said 'This one is mine..'
He told me about his travels and his future plans. Little did he know he already had me at ' I'm sailing to South America.' My lease was coming to an end and my soul was craving change so I asked if he needed a mate. He really didn't need convincing. The next month was one of the funniest times. Every week was he had a different reason to stay....

 1: yeah I'm leaving
Week 2: I need to get provisions
Week 3: do yall rent out slips?
Week 4: guess who got a job working with you... me!
He wasn't going to leave with out me.

After many sails to the reefs where we dove all day, ate lobster dinners in the sunset and searched for treasures. We decided to buy a bigger boat, a 34ft Hunter. She needed some fixing up so we put her on the hard to make her ours.
Little did we know the universe had something much bigger in store for us. We found out we were expecting a beautiful baby boy. Derek had absolutely zero hesitations. His words ' Well I guess we've gotta trade the boat in for diapers.' With the biggest smile on his face. We sold the boat packed up everything that would fit into my Mazda and headed up to Charleston to be closer to our families.

After renting for 2 years we decided that our passion for sailing around the world was still in us. So we bought our home, a 1988 41ft Morgan Catalina. We have made a few different plans to set sail in the next year or two.
Everything comes to fruition and the universe always has a plan.
